I have based
Styles on the 5's.
Style 1
etc. - The 5 has a distinctive top bar with curved oval bottom with a good gap to
the bulge.
Style 2
etc. - The 5 top bar is curved and runs into the down bar with small gap to the
bulge.
Seen so far:
Type 1 (far colon
dots) - Date Style 1 = 2
Type 1 (far colon
dots) - Date Style 1A = 2
Type 1 (far colon
dots) - Date Style 2 = 4
Type 3 (near colon
dots) - Date Style 1B = 1
Type 3 (near colon
dots) - Date Style 1C = 1
Type 3 (near colon
dots) - Date Style 2 = 2
Type 3 (near colon
dots) - Date Style 2A = 3
Type 3 (near colon
dots) - Date Style 2B = 1
N.B. The
Style 1 section was re-written and updated on the 19 Jan. 2018.
I will be very
pleased to hear from anyone that can show that they have different examples.
**I have also been
advised that many of the obverses on these coins have a repaired E in DEI.
The foot of the E
had been broken off. A tiny bump also appears above the top upstroke of the E !?
Note also that the
E is out of alignment and tilts backwards slightly.
This doubled or
repaired E has been seen paired with Date style 2B (I.F. 30/11/07)
