1815 Magdalen Island - 1 Penny Token. Magdalen Island consists of a group of islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, North of Prince Edward Island and west of Newfoundland. The island was awarded to Sir Isaac Coffin after the American Revolution. These coins were made in Birmingham (England). He brought the coins to the Islands and distributed them by way of loans among the chief men in the Islands. The British Government were not impressed and felt that he had over stepped his mark and revoked his grant to the islands. These coins are scarce especially in higher grades.
