10 April 2012: A pop song has been written about me and my shop “Michael Coins” and is currently available to listen to via the internet and on disc !!! NOW on VIDEO See at Me (Michael Gouby) is played by Roger Ashton Griffiths
I have been given a copy of the lyrics. (if you have trouble understanding what she is singing) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "MICHAEL
COINS" The lyrics Your
friends are all worried, you spend too much time on your own Michael
won’t you join us on Tuesday evening ? “Oh
no, I’ve got too much work, I have to work late, it’s important I do” But
Michael sits in his office Cobwebbed,
an old
spider’s dream Sifting
through books of his crazy collection Mountains
of them piled high to the ceiling Hoping
a customer won’t come and take them away They’re
here and they’re here to stay! Who needs friends when I have these old companions ?
They’ve
been here my whole life
through, here beside me Taking
him back to
a world far away Where
Emperors still ruled the world Togas
and slaves, gladiators in rings His
imagination unfurls CHORUS Michael,
Michael Coins, your obsession has left you in the dark ages Michael,
Michael Coins, wants you to leave him be With
his stamps and coins and only he A
collector of history It’s
Michael, Michael Coins (Verse 2) Michael
you haven’t been away in ages Come
on you must take a break, you need to start living your life Michael
what is it about these bits and pieces “Oh
you won’t understand they’re part of the world and they’re part of me” But
Michael looks all around him Thousands
of pounds he’s spent well Travelling
the globe in search of these beauties Roman,
Greek and Byzantine as well Hoping
his customers won’t come and take them away They’re
here and they’re here to stay ! ‘Who
needs friends when I have these old companions ? They’ve
been here my whole life through, here beside me Taking
him back to a world unbeknown Where
knights stood for valour and truth Countries
at war over love and for land His imagination lives on ! CHORUS Michael,
Michael Coins, your obsession has left you in the dark ages Michael,
Michael Coins doesn’t want to come back to reality Michael,
Michael Coins, wants you to leave him be With
his stamps and coins and only he A collector of history It’s
Michael, Michael Coins
I have to laugh at the words as she obviously does NOT know me at all ! (I regularly go out with colleagues/family) (I hope very much for collectors to take the coins away - well buy them at least !) (There are NO cobwebs that I can see - just a bit of dust) (I do NOT think that I live in the Dark Ages and I do think I am in touch with reality) (I have recently been on holiday and I have several more foreign trips planned this year and next) Besides that - I find it very flattering and amusing to have a song written about me and now to have a VIDEO of that song and my shop included Well what can I say ! When you watch the video, please remember it is just a song and NOT a reality ! How did I first hear about the song ? On Thursday, 5 April, at about 3:00 pm a very attractive young female aged about 25/26 rang the bell to enter my shop. I let her in and she approached my desk and said “Can it give you this disc ?” At which point she handed me a dvd in a cover - as shown below.
She said “I have written a song about you and I would like you to have a copy of it” The singer is Izo (short for Isobel) Fitzroy, she explained that she had lived in this area (Notting Hill Gate) since she was a child and that my shop had always been here and therefore was part of her neighbourhood life (well I have been here 46 years and still counting). This was the first time she had ever been into the shop or had a reason to come in. It appears that on many a night she would be walking past the shop and had seen that I was still working on my desk with coins and on the computer. This gave her the inspiration to write this song. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have listened to the track “Michael Coins” and I think it is quite a laugh that someone should write a song about me just because I happen to be working later than most normal people (that is what happens when you happen to run your own business !). I think that Izo has a first rate voice; the song sounds very professional and she certainly has a very good backing group. She has asked permission to film a video around and in the shop - I have agreed that happened on the 23rd June. The results are for all to see on the video. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have looked Izo Fitzroy up on Google and have found several links about her; her group, the gigs she has done. She appears to be an up and coming singer with excellent comments about her - such as: 'Izo FitzRoy & The Royal Bastards are an enigmatic pop trio that combines the quirkiness of Zappa with the powerful punch of Aretha Franklin. Izo's voice is soulful and deep, which provides a rich gospel and blues foundation from which she builds her witty songs upon. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
