[CF] COPPER FARTHINGS 1838-1859 |
GRADE |
Price (£) |
|
Forward:
The obverse dies
for this period were used for striking |
both
Sovereigns
and later, when the die began to show slight signs |
of
wear, for the Farthings.
This helps to explain why so many |
defects
in the legends are recorded i.e. Missing bars to A's etc. |
The
reverse dies
also have their defects most notably the weak |
or
missing colon dots. It is assumed that the dies started with |
all
of the colon dots in perfect alignment and that any weakening |
or disappearance
of these dots occurred
during use. |
Therefore
they should not be considered of MAJOR importance |
However,
there are some collectors that enjoy
collecting or |
recording
some of these
varieties - so for those collectors |
we will
list some of the colon dot varieties - that we find |
|
|
Assume full
colon dots unless stated
