1838 Maundy 2d Type 1 - Normal 8's |
1838 Maundy 2d Type 2 - 2nd 8 is S shaped The top of the 8 is higher |
1838 Maundy 2d Type 2 - 2nd 8 is S shaped & slightly double struck |
1838 Maundy 2d - I have found on examining 19 x 1838 2d's that 17 were of the type 1 date.
The 2 examples that I found of type 2 the 2nd 8 was slightly double struck.
A slight bulge at the base of the 2nd 8.
I would suggest that type 2 examples are much rarer than type 1
* 1838 2ds were also struck as 'currency' coins for use in the colonies i.e. Ceylon, West Indies, etc.
