These obverse Victorian Jubilee head follow on from the Young head dies.

The last Young head obverse die is listed a Obv. 4 (ST 1887 A)

The first issue with the Jubilee head will be listed as

ST 1887 B (Obv. 5) 3 dots around cross (+) on crown (Left, top & right side)

                              [Listed by Davies as 1330 (Dies 1 + A)]

A minor variation at the top of Victoria's cross on top of her crown is listed as

ST 1887 C (Obv. 6) 1 dot at top of crown cross (+) & 1 line - either side of the cross (+)

                              [Listed by Davies as 1331 (Dies 2 + A)]

There are only two basic minor changes to the Jubilee head obverse die.

Obv. 5 & Obv. 6.  Centered around dots & lines around the cross at the

top of Victoria's crown.  As noted above and illustrated with pictures below.

Both obverse types have a similar rarity -  Obv. 6 is slightly easier to obtain.

However, there are a few minor variations to Obv. 6 and these can be put down

to die-wear causing either the dot above the cross missing or the 2 line to the

either side of the cross missing.

With this die-wear the top colon dot is found to be weakly struck after BRITT :

and when both dot & side lines are missing the top colon dot after BRITT .

is also missing leaving just the lower colon dot - as a stop !

ST 1887 Ca  (Obv. 6a).  [UN-Listed by Davies]

The Obv. 6 die is showing signs of wear - The top colon dot after BRITT : is weakly struck.

There is the normal 1 dot at top of crown cross (+)  & 1 line - either side of the cross (+)

as per Obv. 6.

ST 1887 Cb  (Obv. 6b).  [UN-Listed by Davies]

The Obv. 6 die is showing signs of wear - The top colon dot after BRITT : is weakly struck.

The top dot is now missing but the line either side of the cross (+) are still showing.

ST 1887 Cc  (Obv. 6c).  [UN-Listed by Davies]

The Obv. 6 die is showing signs of wear - There is now only a stop after BRITT .

The top dot is missing. The line either side of the cross (+) are either very faint or are

missing.
