ST 1838 P - Obv.1 (F:D: type - A) PROOF struck 'En Medaille' ↑↑ Normally ALL Young head Victorian silver threepence are struck ↑↓ 2 colon dots after F: D: (Align to back of bust). Small die crack from edge at 5 o'clock through F of F: D: 4 mm into field Hint of an edge nick at 7 o'clock and ex-rust spot between R & I of BRIT~ Rev. Two tiny faint pin-head spots at 12 & 1 o'clock Axis: The reverse axis appears to be tilted by about 5 degrees, left, off centre. Grade: Choice PROOF coin with proof field both sides. pAS Note This type of Proof coin is known for 1839 - struck 'En Medaille' but unlisted in both Davies and English Silver Coinage. Extremely RARE A found that a similar example sold in the DNW auction (Now Noonans) 21 March 2016 - Lot # 808 for hammer price £1,300.00 + 20% buyer's premium & Vat (£312.00). Total £1612.00 Lot 808, 21 March 2016 | Noonans Mayfair That coin was described as Extremely Fine or better but probably sometime cleaned and excessively rare. What is NOT mentioned are the small edge nicks that can be clearly seen on the obverse !? This coin I believe to be in far superior condition with less edge nicks !
