SX 1819 H - Sixpence Rev. H of HONI over H - The under H is lower -see my red arrows The red arrows to either side of the outside of the H show the top serifs of the lower H The red arrow at the base shows were the centre bar of the H is. Below the upper H you can see the continued legs of the lower H. The I of HONI is over the Y The I had lost the top left serif and the bottom right serif and needed repairing. The above picture shows the reason that the under letter to the broken I could easily be the Y as it is directly opposite the I and the repairer would have been working with the incuse die in negative - see above image (at the top). At the top left of the under I is the top left of the Y and at the bottom right of the I is the right foot of the Y - see my red arrows. The repairer was extremely fortunate in that the the top left of the Y does give the top left of the I and the bottom right of the I a sort of serif !? Grade: VF? with light tone * The variety of I over S in HONI is well known in shillings and listed in Davies and English Silver Coinage and reportedly found on an 1820 sixpence This variety should not be confused with that variety. See my images of the I over S in HONI for 1817 & 1820 shillings
