* I discovered back in 1995 that Reverse D had been revived as a working die for 1883 since it was 1st used in 1881. This was contrary to researchers. 1882 Appears to have a unique new reverse die (E) which appears not to have been used in 1881 or 1883. This reverse is unlisted in the Davies book on English Silver Coin from 1816 which is the main coin collectors 'bible' for varieties. Even the recent Spink remake of the English Silver Coinage since 1649 does not list this reverse as used for 1883. Over the years I have made a point of purchasing any 1883 sixpences with reverse D that were unrecognised by other dealers or auction houses. They are very scarce or rare. Over the years my ratio of finds of reverse D to reverse F for 1883 has been 1 per 10 or + I have kept them off my website until now. However, as I am trying to add all 'new' unlisted items to my website they are now being included. In those 20 years I have only managed to find 4 reasonable examples and one poor one ! I find that the easiest way to recognise reverse D on 1883 sixpences is by the position of the I of SIX above the N of PENCE (to left leg). As pointed out above there are other differences but these are harder to determine this reverse.
