coin turned by 90 degrees

  

1797 Twopence - Mystery incuse mark on the obverse of the coin - at 6 o'clock.

                                Obv. Slight edge bruises at 3, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 o'clock.

                                         Incuse mark resembling an & or '2' (sideways) !

                                Rev.  Slight edge bruises 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10 & 12 o'clock. Some hardly noticeable.

                           Grade:  VF+

I have no idea why this incuse mark might have been. It looks as if it could have been whilst striking at the Mint. But why ?  Numbering of the die - No. 2 !?

Otherwise a private mark added later !?
