1887  Double Florin - 1 + B (Mule)*  Date: Arabic 1  EF+   Bright - Prooflike

                                * It is amazing that this obverse / reverse combination has never

been spotted or recorded in any reference or variety book.

It is neither in 'British Silver Coins since 1816' by Peter J. Davies

or the 'new' E.S.C. [English Silver Coinage since 1649] By M. Bull.

It has always been assumed and noted that obverse 1 was paired

                                  with reverse A (Roman I) & obverse 2 with reverse B (Arabic 1).

I discovered this variety back in 2003 and decided to hold back on

revealing this variety until now (December 2016) in an attempt to

see how many I could find before this variety was discovered and

made public. I can assure you that this (Mule) obverse / reverse

combination is much harder to find than other Double Florin varieties.

It is possible that the amount made of these "mule" Double Florins

is only about 5% of the total of the 1887 Double Florin production.

As I am starting to list ALL of the unknown varieties that I have

discovered over the years from Crowns to farthings I am now

pleased to include this 'new' unlisted variety.
