1743 Maundy 1d - Date: The 3 of the date is over a 3. This over date is incorrectly listed as 3 over 0 in a couple of reference books. I have added a scan of the 1740 date. Note that the 4 is slanted left and that the" 0" is above the base line of the foot of the 4. Also the size and width of an "0" does not match the under date of that seen on the1743 reverse die ! If there is a genuine 3 over 0 I would be very pleased to see an example of that variety ! The reason for saying that this variety is 3 over 3 is because the down stroke at the left end of the top bar is shown with TWO down strokes, one below the other. & 2 top bars ! Also the curve at the bottom of the 3 matches perfectly the 2nd curved bottom below it. Different shape to the base of a 0. In the 2nd picture I have shown where I consider the 2nd "3" is in RED dots. Rev. The B of BRI is double struck Grade: EF Bright
