The 1684 Maundy 3d's date has as far as I can establish has been over the 1683 dated reverse.
It can at times be difficult to see as the 3 can become fairly weak on worn examples.
The main give away is the "bit" that is at the top left of the 4 - outside of the 4 which is the
"kick-up" bit of the top left of the top bar of the 3.
