ST 1862 D - Obv.2 [As obv. type N] - D. G. (Only the bottom colon dots are clear) F. D. (Only the bottom colon dot is clear after F.) (Only the top colon dot is clear after D.) However, by tilting the coin at various angles one can just make out very faint lower colon dots ! More interestingly is that the last R of BRITANNIAR has been over struck on an other letter ! After careful examination my conclusion is that the R is over an inverted R (which would make sense that the letter is correct but inverted by accident). Another possibility was considered R over N but that seems less likely. Therefore the variety has been classified as: - "2nd R of BRITANNIAR over inverted R". Unless someone can prove differently ! Also noted is that the F of F: D: has been double struck (repaired) and the new F is in a slightly lower and backward position. The F only has lower colon dot as the higher one has not been repaired ! The D of F: D: has also been double struck and there is only the higher colon dot as the lower one has not been added. Rev. A very faint trace of a ghosted image of Victoria's head. Date: Medium width. Grade: Obv. F to possibly Fine +. Rev. VF+ Pale grey. Extremely RARE previously unlisted variety.
