ST 1873 B - Obv. 3 Similar to ST 1873 A except that Victoria's nose has the missing nostril. Victoria's top lip is rounded as per all obverse 3 types. Obv. There are traces of die clashing. There are several die cracks 1. A very thin die crack through last R of BRITANNIAR at 1 o'clock. 2 mm. 2. Thin die crack up to and then left on Victoria's truncated neck at 6 o'clock. 3 mm + 3 mm. 3. Strong die crack through O of VICTORIA towards Victoria's lower lip at 8 o'clock. 4 mm 4. Thin die crack between the colon dots after G: of D: G: and the B of BRITANNIAR at 11 o'clock. 2 mm 5. Very thin die crack down through the 1st A of BRITANNIAR at 12 o'clock. 2 mm Rev. A trace of a couple of Victoria's ghosted head from die clashing. Grade: Bright. EF+ * Examples with the 'part' missing nostril were first noted ONLY for 1873. It now appears that that obverse die was used later up to 1878. As there are far fewer examples found with the use of this die they can be considered scarce. It is difficult to estimate the scarcity with this die as probably no one has looked before to see if this 1873 obverse die type continued after 1873 !
