ST 1873 C - Obv. 3 Victoria's nostril is missing - either removed or a worn die !? Victoria's top lip is now slightly pointed instead of being rounded - as per normal for obverse 3. The ICT-RIA of VICTORIA have been double struck. As has the G of D: G: and several letters in the rest of the legend. There are a couple of die cracks. 1. At 1 o'clock between the IA of BRITANNIAR into Victoria's bun (2 mm). 2. At 7 o'clock - starting with a small blob and tapering to a fine line up to the top of Victoria's neck (5 mm). Very slight scuffing Rev. B Trace of Victoria's ghosted head from die clash Grade: VF+-EF? - So far, the only example known with the pointed top lip. * Examples with the 'part' missing nostril were first noted ONLY for 1873. It now appears that that obverse die was used later up to 1878. As there are far fewer examples found with the use of this die they can be considered scarce. It is difficult to estimate the scarcity with this die as probably no one has looked before to see if this 1873 obverse die type continued after 1873 !
