ST 1899 A & B - Rev. D (Pearls & jewels sharpened up)

ST 1898 A - Rev. C  Shown for comparison

ST 1899 A & B - Rev. D  The pearls have been sharpened up and are now

                                     shown as sharp circular dots.

The centres of the jewels have also been sharpened

up and now show clearly with in their settings.

The arches, above the pearls, to the cross & fleur de Lis

                                     have also been sharpened up.

I have been unable to find any example of reverse C for 1899.

However, it appears that the sharpening up of the reverse die, in 1899, was done in

TWO stages. Below, I will show where the ribbon-ties remain un-sharpened and phase

TWO where the ribbon-ties are sharpened up in three areas with raised crimped edges.

ST 1899 A - Rev. F (Ribbon-tie)

ST 1899 B - Rev. G (Ribbon-tie)

ST 1899 A - Rev. F  The pearls, jewels & arches are sharpened up but the tie-ribbon remains untouched.

ST 1899 B - Rev. G  As reverse D, the pearls, jewels & arches are sharpened up but now the

ribbon-tie has been sharpened up in three areas.*

* Seeing the sharpening of the ribbon-tie (rev. E) on examples below VF is difficult.

I have found more examples with reverse F than G but I would suggest that both reverse

are fairly common and fairly easy to obtain.
