1819 Sixpence.- Type D Obv. B of BRITT is very weak. A very poor attempt was made to strengthen it and the repairer must have had other things on his mind as he completely missed the B and made a test punch below the 1st T of BRITT !? * The repairer never did repair the weak B. The R of BRITT has also had a repair (slightly to the left of the upright)
Date: That is also a bit if a mess ! The foot of the 1st 1 is missing and the 9 has had a 'test' strike of a repair to 9 with a 9 (under 9 - left side only). There is NO lower part of an 8 visible and it is wrong shape curve to be an 8. It can only be a 9 ! * In English Silver Coinage this over date has been referred to a 9 over 8 which I consider as being incorrect. Grade: VF+ (or slightly better)
