SX 1856 A - Normal length line

below PENCE

To the left - from back of E

& in front of wreath leaf.

To the right - Midway below C

to the left of the wreath leaf.

SX 1856 B - Longer length line

below PENCE

To the left - from before E

& to tip of wreath leaf.

To the right - from back tip of E

& to right of wreath leaf.

SX 1856 A (Normal length line) below PENCE is the norm used from 1838.

I have an 1855 B sixpence where the line below Pence is nearly obliterated

for some reason; possibly damaged die ?  See damaged reverse die

Was a new die made because of that damage and this new longer line added ?

The catalogues suggest that that the two reverses are of similar rarity.

I disagree and believe that the longer line reverse type is scarcer for 1856.

As I don't have any 1857 sixpences at present I cannot comment on which

of the two reverses used is the scarcest !

However, evidence from other dealer lists suggest that the longer line is

the scarcer of the two types.
