SX 1880 - Obv. 5

E of REG - to tooth & : to tooth

SX 1880 - Obv. 6

I of GRATIA - to gap

SX 1880 - Obv. 6

E of REG - to gap & : to gap

2 Different obverse dies were used in 1880.

Obverse 5  The I of GRATIA points to a tooth. The E of REG & : after point to a tooth.

Has fewer border teeth than obverse 6. Victoria's head appears bigger than obv. 6

Obverse 6  The I of GRATIA points to a gap between teeth The E of REG & : after point also to a gap.

Has many more border teeth than obverse 5.Victoria's head appears smaller than obv. 5

Several other letters of VICTORIA & BRITANNIAR pointing to teeth or gaps and can be used in

determining the differences between the obverses 5 & 6.

There are fairly major changes from obverse 5 to obverse 6. Obverse 6 now has many more smaller

border teeth. Victoria's head is smaller  and her hair has been completely re-cut for obverse 6 -

thinner with long waves. The 'kiss curl' or lock hanging down just before her ear in obverses 1 to 5

has been completely removed for obverse 6. Her face seems slightly more pushed forward in obverse 6 to

obverse 5.

Obverse 5, had a very short life as an obverse die, for only part of 1879 & 1880, this makes obverse 5 examples scarce. I have found only one obverse 5 to about 8 to 10 obverse 6's.
