All of the 1842 groats have the 18 of the date in a fixed position.
The position of the 42 can vary slightly.
Date: The top of the 4 is pointed and it has a T bar tail.

This variety has been seen with the numerals double struck and NOT double struck.

GR 1842 - Date: Type c - Full stop before 1 of date (about half way up) !
* I believe that this is just a bit of grit that got stuck to the reverse die.
