1847 over 8 varieties. A very elusive and hard to find date variety not to be confused with 8 over 7. GR 1847 B - Obv. Slight central wear on Victoria's hair. Rev. Die crack at 5 o'clock from edge through the centre of Britannia's shoe up as far as her calf - 4 mm. Another very slight die crack at 10 o'clock. Starting from the edge to the top left edge of the R of FOUR. Date: 7 over 8 (Reason for decision for calling it 7 over 8) This style of 7 font with the straight angled leg has been listed by me as Type B as there is a slightly curved leg 7 listed by me as Type A. All examples of 1847 over 8 Groats are RARE. As one can see there is no doubt that the numeral under the 7 is an 8 ! My finest example was in EF+-pAS. It was sold February 2021. That example had a choice pale green tone. Grade: EF?-EF with overall pale greyish brown tone. Extremely RARE
