ST 1911 - 1919

A good head strike

ST 1911 - 1919

A reasonable head strike

ST 1911 - 1919

 Maundy Proof - 1st strike

ST 1911 - 1919

A weak head strike

ST 1911 - 1919

A Very weak head strike

ST 1911 - 1919 - A strong head strike (PROOF) - George V - All of his hair &

moustache is sharp - a 1st strike with a new die.

ST 1911 - 1919 - A good head strike - George V - All of his hair & moustache is clearly

visible but not as sharply cut as per the proof coin. About as good possible.

                          * Of the 1000's of coins of this period I have examined over the years

I have yet to find any currency 3d obverse as sharp as the Maundy

                             PROOF issue.

ST 1911 - 1919 - A reasonably good head strike - George V - All of his hair & moustache

is clearly visible but has a slightly softer look. The good majority of the coins

I have found tend to be with this head strike. Still a fairly good looking coin.

ST 1911 - 1919 - A weak head strike - George V - All of his hair & moustache is now weakly

struck and there is a much softer indistinct look to the hair & moustache.

A lot of the coins can be seen with this head strike, Simply looking at the

obverse of the coin one would consider that the grade of this sort of coin is

Fine + to VF. The reverse of the coin would be the better indicator of the

                          coins true grade.

ST 1911 - 1919 - A Very weak head strike - George V - All of his hair & moustache now

looks flat and virtually non-existent ! Grade Fair to Fine. Again one needs

to look to the reverse to give one a better indicator of the grade.

It is unfortunate that the obverse dies needed to be used to such an

                          extent.

* I regret that the picture quality of the good head strike and reasonable head strike

do not completely show the subtle differences between the two grades.

For that one has to judge oneself. If you hold out for an even stronger 1st strike you

  might wait  forever !
