GR 1848 H - Rev. Type C All of the letters in PENCE appear to be enlarged except for the P of PENCE. The first E has bolder, stronger top bar, centre bar and lower bar. The ends have a more triangular look. The back serifs are also longer. The N has bolder centre down bar. The serifs are also stronger and longer. The C is again virtually circular with a gap at 3 o'clock.. The tail or end section is now much thicker than previously seen on Rev. A. The E is as per the first E bolder and stronger. This example the E is double struck. There is a die crack at 4 o'clock from the edge to the top of the C. Date: Type h The last 8 is double struck as 8 over 8 and over 7. The ' 18' appear to also be slightly double struck. The '48 are smaller as seen on the rare 7 over 8 examples. The '48' are entered above the base line. Grade: Choice deep tone pAS
