1927 to 1936 Sixpences

Obverse 1 This obverse was used from 1927 to 1929

Obverse 2  This obverse was used from 1930 to 1936

These obverse differences have only been list by Davies in his book "British Silver Coins - since 1816".

No other reference books mention that there are different dies within these years.

These varieties are not normally listed as there appears to be no cross over -

i.e. Obv. 1 being used in 1929 & 1930 or Obv. 2 being used in 1929 & 1930.

Plus the differences are so minor as to be ignored.

I have pictured these two obverses in case there is the possibility that both obverse 1 & 2 were used

in the same year but as yet no collector or researcher has found or listed an example of this.

Possibly you could be the first to find a 'new' variety for this series !

Reverses - Davies lists that most year between 1927 to 1936 have some very minor differences made

to the reverse dies. Again they are too small to be that important, plus, again there appears

to be no cross over of any of the reverses, i.e. no two reverses being used in a single year.

As mentioned with the obverses is it possible that no single year have been found with two

difference reverses is because no one has found one !

This particular series of sixpences is not the most exciting, plus if you are told there are no

varieties - why would you bother looking ! It is possible that none of the obverses or reverses

cross over but it only takes a second to have a look !

These are the reverse varieties that Davies lists:-

In 1927 - reverse A

In 1928 - reverse B

In 1929 - reverse C

In 1930 - reverse D

In 1931 - reverse D

In 1932 - reverse D

In 1933 - reverse D

In 1934 - reverse E

In 1935 - reverse F

In 1936 - reverse G

At present I don't have the time to scan and show pictures of these different reverses

as the differences are very minor and as there appears to be no cross-over dates / reverse

varieties !  Check these differences out in Peter Davies "British Silver Coins since 1816".
